Accessibility status
We want the Chashmonaim Brigade sites to be accessible to everyone. This statement covers the brigade site and the “I Am a Warrior and a Ben Torah” experience at new.chashmonaim.co.il.
The standard we aim for is Israeli Standard IS 5568 at level AA, under regulation 35A of the Israeli Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities Regulations (Service Accessibility Adjustments), 2013. This statement is published under regulation 35E.
We do not claim full conformance with the standard. A full review of the sites, including testing with screen readers, has not yet been completed. Date of last review: [Date of last review].
What exists on the brigade site
- An accessibility menu on every page, from the fixed button at the corner of the screen: increase text size, highlight links and stop animations.
- Respect for your device’s reduced motion setting: animations do not run.
- A visible focus outline for keyboard navigation on most elements, and closing windows with the Escape key.
- Page language and direction, marked navigation and main content regions, and text descriptions for icon buttons and for images that carry information.
- Labeled choice groups in the forms.
What exists in the experience
- Moving your view with the arrow keys, and dedicated buttons to look right and left.
- A captions button, including descriptions of sounds, and a mute button.
- A status region for screen readers.
- Respect for your device’s reduced motion setting, with shorter timings and no transition videos.
- Hold buttons that also work from the keyboard, with Space or Enter.
Known limitations
The 3D experience
The experience is built as a 3D journey and is not fully accessible. What we currently know:
- It requires a browser with WebGL. Without it you cannot enter, and there is no alternative path inside the experience.
- The form appears only at the end of the journey, and you cannot skip to it.
- Hold buttons may be hard to operate with a screen reader on a phone.
- Narration text disappears after a fixed time and cannot be paused or extended.
- Some text in the form has lower contrast than required.
- Looping videos cannot be paused.
Alternative: information about the brigade and its tracks is also on the brigade site, and you can leave your details on the contact page or reach the Brigade Hotline.
The brigade site
- When reduced motion is turned on in your device, the forms and join windows may not work. In the meantime, please reach the Brigade Hotline by phone or WhatsApp.
- The skip to content link does not appear on screen even when reached by keyboard.
- In pop-up windows, focus does not stay inside the window, and the window inviting you to the experience takes focus after a few seconds.
- Form error messages appear briefly and not next to the field, and required fields are marked visually only.
- On some fields the focus outline is not clear enough.
- The Stop animations button does not stop looping videos.
- Videos served from the site have no captions.
