The Chashmonaim March to Jerusalem: Cohort 4 Combat Soldiers Complete Their Training and Join the Yonatan Battalion
A moving moment of deep significance unfolded in the streets of the capital: combat soldiers of Cohort 4 of the Chashmonaim Brigade marched through the heart of the Holy City, completing a grueling and meaningful Beret March that brought an intensive chapter of training to its close. The new combat soldiers now officially join the operational force and will serve in the Yonatan Battalion.
From a Night of Effort to the Streets of the Holy City
The march, which tested the soldiers’ operational, physical and mental limits, demanded determination, camaraderie and devotion to the mission. Along the unique route through the heart of Jerusalem, the soldiers were accompanied by family members, friends and many residents who came to support, cheer and encourage them. The march stirred great emotion among passersby and highlighted the deep bond between the People of Israel and its soldiers.
Torah, Combat and the Joy of a Mitzvah at the Foot of the Western Wall
The climax came when the marchers reached the Western Wall plaza. As is the sacred custom in the Chashmonaim Brigade, the ceremony opened with a moving siyum, the completion of a Talmud tractate, held by the soldiers, who kept up continuous, regular Torah study even through the grueling days of training.
The Brigade Commander, Col. Shemer Raviv, greeted the soldiers with warm words, spoke of the greatness of the hour and stressed the deep connection between operational heroism on the battlefield and devotion to the world of Torah and halacha.
When the berets were revealed, the soldiers, commanders and families burst into mighty song and joyous dancing that shook the Western Wall plaza, giving thanks for the past and praying for the future.
Continuing the Chain in the Yonatan Battalion
With training complete, the soldiers move up to operational deployment and join the ranks of the Yonatan Battalion. The young soldiers and their commanders set out on their new path with a deep sense of mission, full readiness for any scenario and the hope of continuing to lead, to defend and to sanctify God’s name in every mission.
